Shooting - Deep Creek Blvd and Columbus Ave

March 10, 2009, update on suspect vehicle information: Portsmouth Police Detectives are looking for a gold, four door vehicle, with both front hubcaps missing. The vehicle is possibly a 90’s model, Camry. The occupants of the vehicle are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on the vehicle or the owner is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Update

On March 7, 2009 at approximately 10:30 PM, two additional juveniles showed up at Maryview Hospital with apparent gunshot wound injuries. That brought the total number of victims with injuries to seven. The five juveniles taken to Maryview Hospital were treated and released. The two victims taken to Norfolk General Hospital were in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, Portsmouth Police are still asking for anyone with information on the unknown suspects to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

On March 7, 2009 at approximately 6:22 PM, officers responded to the area of Deep Creek Blvd and Columbus Ave for a report of gunshot wounds.  Upon arrival, officers located 5 persons with injuries.  Three of the victims, juvenile females, were transported to Maryview Hospital.  The other two victims, males, were transported to Norfolk General Hospital.  At this time, all the injuries appear non-life threatening.

The only information available at this time on suspects is that there were two black males in an unknown make and model vehicle that fired the shots at a crowd of people in the area of Deep Creek Blvd and Columbus Ave.

IMPERSONATING PORSTMOUTH POLICE OFFICER

February 3, 2009 shortly after 5:00 P.M. two female victims and one male victim was exiting their vehicle in the 4400 block of County Street, when suspect male approached in a dark gray, Jeep Cherokee.  The suspect told all three victims, he was the police and they were under arrest.  One of the victims challenged the suspect, by asking to see a badge.

The male suspect pulled his vehicle closer to the victims, and wrote, what victims believe, was their license plate number on a piece of paper.  The suspect made a phone call on his cell phone, then quickly left the area.  A few minutes later, the suspect returned and parked near victims home.

A witness, who went to the aid of the victims, approached the suspect and asked to see a badge.  The suspect told the witness, he left his badge at home, but could go get it.  At the same time, the suspect was showing the witness a pair of handcuffs.  Before leaving the area, the suspect threatened to return.

The suspect is described as a white male, around 250 lbs, with a beard and mustache.  He was wearing a ball cap and camouflage jacket.  The suspect vehicle is a dark gray, Jeep Cherokee with Virginia License XUU-4896.  According to witnesses, the vehicle had several antennas on top.  The license plate is not registered to that vehicle.

Anyone with information on the identity of this individual, or knows the whereabouts of the vehicle, is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.  It could earn you a cash reward of up to $1000.

Robbery 1500 block of Hamilton Avenue

Portsmouth Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at approximately 3:02 p.m. on January 13, 2009 at the Albano Cleaners located in the 1500 block of Hamilton Avenue.

According to witnesses two male suspects entered the business and asked the clerk to find their laundry. After the clerk informed the two that there was no laundry under the name given, the two suspects left the business. They returned a few minutes later with a third male suspect. The third suspect pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded the safe be opened. All three suspects removed items from the safe, then went to the cash register and removed an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspects are described as black males, around the age of twenty. One suspect was wearing a red hat and yellow shirt. Two were 5′8″ to 5′10″ tall and one was short, around 5′4″ tall.

No surveillance photographs from the business are available.
